Job Summary

As the Manager, Safety, Health, and Loss Control is responsible for formulating the direction and strategy of the corporate health and loss control programs, provide safety and health support and in ensuring federal and state regulations for YKK Corporation of America (YCA) and subsidiary companies.  Plans and directs all Safety, Health, and Loss Control activities by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Must possess good computer skills (Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  2. Comply with YKK’s Compliance Program including Environmental, Quality, Health & Safety, and Confidential Information Management guidelines.
  3. Develops companywide safety and health policies, goals and objectives and communicates new developments in health and safety, applicable to company operations.  Promotes a safety culture within the corporate environment.
  4. Provides companywide technical safety and health support and information to ensure compliance with applicable occupational safety and health regulations.
  5. Conducts companywide audit of practices and records of all manufacturing plants and branch operations, to ensure compliance with company, federal and state safety and health regulations.  Recommends corrective action when appropriate. 
  6. Manages companywide workers compensation case management, including settlement authority, legal and return to work practices.  Reviews injury/illness investigation reports and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
  7. Conducts annual Safety Seminar as a forum to share best practices, increase proficiency in safety practices, support compliance with federal and state law, and promote safety consciousness.
  8. Creates contracts, supervises and coordinates training programs. Develops and conducts companywide supervisor and employee training seminars on safety and loss prevention.
  9. Develops and implements companywide safety systems including Risk Management.  Produces policies and procedures manuals for compliance with workplace safety and health regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (cont.)

  1. Investigates accidents and makes recommendations for corrective action.  Serves as liaison between company and governmental agencies on safety and health matters.
  2. Negotiates payments and monitor activities related to the company’s workers compensation program.
  3. Provides functional direction, assistance and support to the companies and facilities safety and health personnel.
  4. Plans, coordinates, and approves the use of outside loss control consultants and resources to support individual facility objectives.
  5. Develop and direct companywide safety and health evaluation program for each company’s facilities and branch locations.
  6. Performs other position related duties as assigned.

Supervision and Scope of Position

There are no direct reports under this position, although frequent communication and direction of local safety managers is expected.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education/Experience: 

Bachelor's degree (business or related field) required from four-year college or university.  Five to 10 years related experience and/or training required. In depth knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, workers compensation laws, risk management and sate procedures pertaining to occupational health and safety.  Or the equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

       Certificates and Licenses: 

Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Associate Risk Manager (ARM) preferred but not required.

Travel Requirements:  Up to 50% travel required.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  The employee is required to wear appropriate safety protective equipment at the proper times and in the proper environments as required by safety program rules.
